School Based Courses
School based courses provide secondary school students with the opportunity to gain practical skills while still completing their high school education. At WA Academy, our school based courses allow students to begin building career skills in the hair and beauty industry while working toward their WACE requirements.
Students attend training alongside their normal school schedule and gain hands-on experience in a professional learning environment. These school based courses are designed to introduce students to real industry practices and help them develop confidence in practical skills.
How Our School Based Courses Work
School based courses are usually delivered one day per week while students continue their studies at school. This structure allows students to explore a vocational pathway without interrupting their progress toward completing Year 11 and Year 12.
During school based courses, students learn practical techniques, industry safety standards, and professional behaviours that are expected in real workplaces. This combination of school study and vocational training provides a balanced approach to learning.
Who Can Enrol in School Based Courses
School based courses are generally available to students who are currently enrolled in secondary school and looking to begin training in a vocational field. Many students choose these courses because they want to explore a career path before leaving school.
Students who are interested in industries such as hairdressing or beauty therapy can gain early exposure to the skills and knowledge required in those fields. School based courses give students a chance to develop their interests and see whether the industry suits them.
Skills You Learn in School Based Courses
School based courses focus on developing practical skills that can be applied in real salon or beauty environments. Students may learn basic techniques, hygiene standards, product knowledge, and how to interact professionally with clients.
These courses also help students build confidence in communication, teamwork, and workplace behaviour. The skills learned through school based courses can support both further training and future employment opportunities.
Benefits of Our School Based Courses
One of the main advantages of school based courses is that students gain industry experience while still completing their school studies. This can help them make more informed decisions about their future career pathways.
School based courses also provide a smoother transition into further vocational training. Many students choose to continue into full qualifications after finishing school because they already have some practical experience and industry knowledge.
Pathways After Completing School Based Courses
Completing school based courses can open the door to further study in nationally recognised qualifications. Students often continue into certificate level courses in areas such as hairdressing, beauty therapy, makeup, or nail technology.
These pathways allow students to build on the skills they began developing during school based courses. By continuing their training after school, many students move toward careers in the hair, beauty, and wellness industries.
