WA Academy offers high quality VET training in Certificate II in Hairdressing, Certificate II in Retail, Makeup & Skin Care, Certificate II in Nail Technology and Certificate III in Beauty Services to Year 10, 11 and 12 students in Western Australia.


Certificate II in Hairdressing (SIH20111)

Course Overview

This is an entry level qualification into the exciting world of hairdressing at WA Academy. On completion of the Certificate II in Hairdressing qualification students can work under supervision in a hair salon as a Salon Assistant or utilise this qualification as a stepping stone into a hairdressing apprenticeship.

Functions in this qualification involve blowdrying, setting, long hair styling, colour application and removal, braiding, shampoo, treatments and massage services, communication skills, resume writing, interviewing skills and much more.

Students are supplied all products, equipment, resources, and a WA Academy top included in the course cost below. Students are required to wear black professional pants and enclosed black shoes to all classes.

  • Duration: 1 day per week for 30 weeks
  • Start Date: Thursday, 28th of February 2013
  • Hours: 9:30am to 4pm on Thursdays
  • Accreditation: Nationally recognised qualification Certificate II level

Certificate II in Retail, Makeup & Skin Care (SIB20110)

Course Overview

This Certificate II qualification is designed to give students the education and training to launch their career as a Makeup Artist. This entry level qualification is suitable for those wanting to work in a pharmacy, cosmetic counter, small beauty salon, or as a freelance makeup artist.

Covering topics such as skin care, makeup application, working with a photographer, merchandising, communication and all the attributes required for a professional in this field. Students who complete this course may also choose to gain further training in other beauty qualifications at WA Academy.

Students are supplied with a full set of professional makeup brushes, all textbooks, products, equipment, resources, and a WA Academy top included in the course cost unless detailed below. Students are required to wear black professional pants and enclosed black shoes to all classes.

  • Start Date: Friday, 1st of March 2013
  • Hours: 9:30am to 4pm on Fridays

Certificate II in Nail Technology (SIB20210)

Course Overview

This Certificate II qualification is designed to give students the education and training to launch their career as a Nail Technician. This entry level qualification is suitable for those wanting to work in a nail salon, beauty salon, hair salon or as a freelance nail technician.

Covering topics such as acrylic nail application, french acrylic, rebalancing, nail anatomy, diseases and disorders, manicure and pedicare services, nail painting, nail art, use of the drill, gel nails, communication and all the attributes required for a professional in this field.

Students who complete this course may also choose to gain further training in other beauty qualifications at WA Academy.

Students are supplied with a full professional acrylic nail kit with acrylic brush, all text books, products, equipment, resources, and a WA Academy top included in the course cost below.

Students are required to wear black professional pants and enclosed black shoes to all classes.

Certificate III in Beauty Services (SIB30110)

Course Overview

This Certificate III in Beauty Services qualification is designed to give students the education and training to launch their career as a Beautician. This entry level qualification is suitable for those wanting to work in a small beauty salon and provides fundamental beauty services such as lash and brow tinting, waxing of facial and body areas, manicure, pedicure and makeup application.

Students who complete this course may also choose to gain further training in other beauty qualifications at WA Academy.

Students are supplied all text books, products, equipment, resources, and a WA Academy top included in the course cost below. Students are required to wear black professional pants and enclosed black shoes to all classes.

About WA Academy

We offer upfront payment for courses. Alternatively, courses can be paid for through a payment plan option, which allows schools, parents and students to pay during the course duration.

How long has WA Academy been delivering VET qualifications?

We have been delivering VET qualifications to school students in WA since 2005.

Are these courses government funded?

These VET courses are no longer government funded. Course payment is covered by parents/guardians and/or the school (where funds are available).

Why do you deliver VET courses one day a week?

Training one day a week allows students to balance their VET training with their schooling, giving them the flexibility to gain valuable job skills training while completing their school education.

Can training be delivered on an alternative day of the week?

With a minimum enrolment of 20 students, we are able to deliver training on an alternative day to that detailed in the course information above. Please contact us on (08) 9356 2269 for more information.

Are courses delivered on school facilities?

Training for all courses takes place in our modern, state-of-the-art facilities located at Suite 2, 1140 Albany Highway, Bentley. These facilities are purpose built for each course area and is complemented by high quality training equipment and industry leading beauty and cosmetics products.
